3 Key Health Benefits of Using Saunas Regularly – Our Guide

December 15, 2020 By Jim Milner

Benefits of Using Saunas in San Diego

The sauna experience is relaxing and truly deserved after a long day at work. You can easily slip into your bathrobe, set the ideal temperature, and just bask in the comfortable steam. A lesser-known fact is you can gain many health benefits when you use the sauna regularly. And we are here to let you know about them in just three easy-to-remember facts!

This article will help you understand how you can better your health and wellness easily when you step into the steam room. Take this as an opportunity to invest in yourself and your me-time!

Health Benefits of Using Saunas

1. Aids against the growth of free radicals. Ever wondered why you feel like your skin is baby soft and clear after your steam session? That’s because of a healthy enzyme called superoxide dismutase or SOD for short, which is produced when you introduce your body to soothing heat and steam.

Your body generates SOD to get rid of free radicals, which are pesky molecules that damage your skin, DNA generations, and protein levels, leading to heart disease and rapidly aging skin. As such, help your body fight against free radicals by treating yourself to a sauna session regularly.

2. Helps build endurance. Keeping to your active lifestyle can be challenging, especially when considering your daily work stress, family obligations, and health. These issues can leave you exhausted after every workout, affecting your endurance. Fortunately, you can take a few minutes to relax and build your body’s natural stamina for physical activity when you use your steam room routinely after your workout. A study published in the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport indicates that utilizing sauna sessions as a post-exercise routine can enhance your body’s natural endurance due to the increased blood flow. The study found that their control group who underwent steam room sessions after their workout was able to run for up to 23 percent further than their previous recorded runs. The best way to take advantage of steam rooms to improve your endurance is to utilize these rest sessions to allow your body to acclimate to rising temperatures. That way, you can get used to more intense, rigorous workouts and build your strength for longer gym sessions and take the time to rest actively by relaxing in the sauna!

3. Promotes good heart health. You need to be mindful of your body’s resilience against heart disease as you may be vulnerable to it due to hereditary reasons and your current lifestyle. It is the leading cause of death across all gender and race groups in the United States, and one person dies every 36 seconds due to cardiovascular disease. Fortunately, there are ways to avoid this. You can keep your good heart health through diet and exercise. You can also look into regular sauna sessions, which can lower heart disease risk. A 2018 published study found that their control group had a significantly reduced rate of cardiovascular-related issues and risk of all-cause mortality. As such, maintain your healthy routine and call steam room builders for the best at-home sauna experience!

3 Benefits of Incorporating a Steam Room into Your Home

November 26, 2020 By Jim Milner

Steam Room in San Diego CaliforniaMaintaining a healthy lifestyle requires you to keep your life in balance and harmony. By boosting your overall well-being, you can live more comfortably, healthily, and extend your lifespan.

Being healthy is more than just exercising regularly and watching what you eat. It also means taking some time to unwind and rest both physically and mentally, free of your worries and responsibilities. One way to promote relaxation is by enjoying steam therapy sessions in the safety and comfort of your own home. Here are some benefits of incorporating steam rooms into your home:

Steam Room Benefits into Your Home

1. It lets you unwind. Everyone has their own way of destressing after a long, hard day. Some choose to binge-watch their favorite TV shows, while others opt for a warm, relaxing bath. If you’re looking for a new and health-promoting way to boost your wellness, consider a steam room. 1. The controlled humidity and heat of a steam room works on a deeper level than a hot bath and can help you release your built-up tension and soothe aching muscles. Also, steam therapy has been found to reduce the stress hormone, cortisol. 1. Visiting a commercial steam room can be helpful but you may not find the depth of peace and relaxation that you’re looking for due to the shared space and issues of cleanliness. To truly enjoy the quiet time that you’re seeking, consider hiring us for steam room installation. Having your own steam room at home means you can leave your distractions outside. For a more relaxing steam session, play some calming music, turn on your custom essential oils with healing scents, and illuminate your Chromatherapy lighting. Steam room and equipment installation require a knowledgeable professional that understands vapor locking the steam shower and all the nuances, codes, and requirements associated with building and equipping these rooms. Work with us to ensure that all aspects of your steam room construction meets all these requirements, works proficiently, reflects your aesthetic values, and fits your budget and preferences. In addition, you can ask for our help via our consultation services or steam room repair.

2. It may help you breathe easier. A session in your home steam room can potentially help clear your nasal passages and lungs. Steam is an effective and natural expectorant, so you can seek steam therapy to relieve your respiratory discomfort and upper respiratory issues. 2., 3. Steam works by helping open restricted airways and dislodging mucus and phlegm that may be clogging your airways and affecting your breathing. Since it promotes easier and more comfortable breathing, it may play a role in improving your overall health.

3. It uplifts your mood. Aside from alleviating your stress, enjoying steam therapy in the comfort of your home can help uplift and regulate your mood, ease your negative feelings, establish your mental balance, and promote a healthy lifestyle. It is one of the most effective ways to naturally raise your serotonin or “feel-good” hormones through the heat-sensitive neurons in your brain.

The Benefits of Heat Therapy in Steam and Sauna Rooms

January 13, 2020 By Jim Milner

The Benefits of Heat Therapy in Steam and Sauna RoomsSince the time of Roman baths, people have gravitated towards the healing power of steam and heat. The Mayans, as well, used sweat houses routinely for ceremonies as well as for good health as long as 3,000 years ago. We have long known that steam and sauna rooms facilitate relaxation and wellbeing for mind and body. Today, we also have medical, peer reviewed research that validates these benefits.

Tension

The application of heat, as we all experientially know, reduces and relaxes muscle discomfort. Medical, peer reviewed research has found that, in addition to relaxation and stress reduction, sauna and steam rooms can minimize joint discomfort by stimulating circulation that, in turn, reduces stiffness and increases range of motion. With immersion in heat, capillaries dilate aiding freer blood flow throughout the body.

Blood Regulation/Pressure

The heart responds to heat in other healthful ways. Even though skin temperature in a steam or sauna room will increase, a body’s interior temperature will normally stay below 100°. Yet the pulse rate can rise by 30 percent or more. This allows the heart to nearly double the amount it circulates to the body each minute. This serves to release aldosterone that regulates and lowers the body’s blood pressure.

Removes Toxins

The body’s metabolic toxins, as well as environmental toxins, are stored in fat cells and intercellular fluid. These toxins can accumulate within fatty tissue and have been linked to various diseases. Heat therapy helps increase metabolism, releasing toxins and helps burn fat. The heat from saunas and steam rooms also aids elimination of toxins through enhanced sweating and can lead to clearer skin.

Muscle Recovery

Workout pain, or delayed onset muscle soreness, can be treated with heat therapy in steam and sauna sessions. The heat penetrates muscle tissues, increasing blood flow, and thus provides relief. It has been found that moist heat may work even more quickly than dry heat when it comes to muscle recovery.

Opens Sinus Cavities and Other Health Concerns

Heat therapy from saunas and steam rooms can open sinuses and thin mucous membranes, encouraging deep breathing and help alleviate congestion. The body naturally raises its temperature in response to infection and it’s been found that raising body temperature artificially in steam and sauna rooms can also enhance our ability to destroy viruses, parasites and bacteria and to help fight chronic infections.

Optimize Your Steam Room Experience

January 6, 2020 By Jim Milner

Optimize Your Steam Room ExperienceUsing a steam room offers one of today’s most relaxing experiences and many positive health benefits. It can improve circulation, offers detoxification and can play a huge role in reducing stress levels. But is there a right or wrong way to enjoy taking a steam shower?

In antiquity, ancient Greeks and Romans enjoyed the relaxation and rejuvenation benefits inherent in steam baths. This popularity has only increased over the millennia to our current time.

In terms of how best to use a steam room, whether a shared facility or your own private steam room, there are some steps to take to ensure that you are getting the most from your steam experience:

Shower

Showering first gets rid of any dirt, oils or products such as perfume. This is just good etiquette when you are using a shared facility but also keeps your personal steam room cleaner and easier to maintain.

Guard Against Bacteria

A moist atmosphere can be a breeding ground for communicable germs and bacteria. If you are using a shared facility or if others use your steam room, you will want to make sure to sit on a towel and use appropriate footwear.

Remain Mindful of Temperature and Humidity Levels
The optimum temperature of a steam room is between 110- and 116-degrees Fahrenheit and humidity should remain 100% to provide consistent steam.

High steam room temperatures are potentially dangerous. This is important to keep in mind if your temperature is already elevated due, for instance, to being sick. It’s also important to stay hydrated by drinking water before, during and after your steam session.

Remain Mindful of Time

While the optimum duration for a steam shower is largely a matter of personal preference, most experts suggest limiting time to around 15, 20 minutes. If you’re new to steam showers, it’s best to limit your time and remain cognizant of your comfort level.

Considerations for Beginners

You may also want to take a few breaks during your steam to help acclimate to the experience. Make sure to leave if at any time you feel dizzy, faint or nauseous. And it’s always good to speak with your doctor prior to participating in new activities, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.

For many, it takes time to acclimate to the high temperature and breathing so much moisture. Therefore, it’s recommended to take it slow as you learn your limitations and what feels best.

Take a Break

Even for the experienced steam room enthusiast, taking a break in-between sessions can be helpful. Adding some cool air or water to lower body temperature between sessions can help your comfort level as well as stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation.
